Early life and education

edit

Godwins was born and raised in Akoko Edo Local Government Area. He completed his tertiary education at the University of Benin, earning a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.[2][3]

Career

edit

Before entering politics, Godwins worked as an engineer, specifically as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, where he oversaw operations in the South-South region of Nigeria.[3] He began his political career in local government politics.[3]

Godwins ran in the 2023 House of Representatives election for Akoko Edo Federal Constituency under the Labour Party. After an unsuccessful run and a subsequent legal challenge, he joined the PDP and was later appointed as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.[4]

As Deputy Governor, Godwins has stated his commitment to supporting the development of sports and other sectors in Edo State.[5] His appointment has been acknowledged by his kinsmen in Akoko-Edo.[6]

About the Edo State Digital Library

Edo State and its people are filled with rich history and dynamic cultures. The majority of the communities that inhabit the state use oral communication, as such much of the history is undocumented. And as the custodians of our oral history pass on, more history is lost. The Edo State Digital Library is dedicated to providing a space where Edo history, in all its forms - written, oral, pictorial, etc. can be preserved. The portal welcomes contributors.
