Invitation to the historic Launch of the Edo State Digital Library

Launch Date: 15th October 2024

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of the Edo State Digital Library. This groundbreaking initiative marks a pivotal moment in preserving and celebrating Edo State's and Africa's rich history and culture. The visionary Governor of Edo State has spearheaded this monumental project, the first of its kind in Africa, as a testament to the importance of safeguarding our collective heritage in the digital age.

Launch Date: 15th October 2024

The Edo State Digital Library is not merely a repository of knowledge but a beacon of cultural, and educational, preservation, designed to document, preserve, and share the vibrant history of Edo State and the broader African continent. For too long, our stories, traditions, and achievements have been left undocumented, threatened by the tides of time and modernization. This initiative boldly breaks the cycle of neglect that has long plagued the documentation of African history.

Vision and Historical Importance. The vision behind the Edo State Digital Library is clear; to create an accessible, comprehensive, and enduring archive that honors the legacies of our ancestors, showcases the brilliance of our civilizations, and empowers future generations with the knowledge of their past. This digital library will serve as a hub of cultural, educational, and historical resources, offering scholars, students, and the global community unprecedented access to a wealth of information on Edo State's unique heritage and Africa's broader contributions to human civilization.

By launching this digital library, Edo State is setting a precedent for the rest of Africa, demonstrating that our history is worth preserving and vital to our identity and future. This initiative is a call to action for all Africans to recognize the value of our stories, to document them with pride, and to share them with the world.

Breaking the Culture of Neglect. For too long, the rich tapestry of African history has been underappreciated, often overshadowed by external narratives. The Edo State Digital Library seeks to change this by reclaiming our stories and ensuring they are told accurately and proudly. This project is a step toward breaking the culture of neglect that has allowed our cultural heritage to fade into obscurity. It is a declaration that our history matters and that we will take charge of preserving and promoting it for generations to come.

We invite all members of the public, historians, scholars, students, and the global community to join us on 15th October 2024 for the historic launch of the Edo State Digital Library. Together, we will celebrate a new era of cultural preservation, one that honors our past while paving the way for a brighter future.

Let us come together to support this visionary project and ensure that the stories of Edo State and that of Africa continue to inspire and educate the world.

About the Edo State Digital Library

Edo State and its people are filled with rich history and dynamic cultures. The majority of the communities that inhabit the state use oral communication, as such much of the history is undocumented. And as the custodians of our oral history pass on, more history is lost. The Edo State Digital Library is dedicated to providing a space where Edo history, in all its forms - written, oral, pictorial, etc. can be preserved. The portal welcomes contributors.
